Day 20: Exploring Melbourne

Using the Visitor Shuttle and the free tram, I did a little more exploring. I visited Melbourne's Victorian Arcades.

More elegant than Adelaide, but not up to the superior standard set in Sydney. However, Melbourne does win the award for the most spectacular cakeshop window.

Unfortunately the queue was much too long for me to linger to sample the goodies!

Later in the morning the floodlights at the MCG shone brightly against a darkening sky and it was not long before rain followed.

The Eureka Tower stretched up in the gloom.

As the rain continued to fall in the evening we decided to try the hotel restaurant, but since we had not had the foresight to make a booking, we were condemned to passing the time drinking cocktails/mocktails in the rather swish Atrium bar.

This is the view looking skywards!

It was Evie's last night, since she will not be travelling on to Perth with us tomorrow.

Flying eastwards to Perth and moving our watches back 3 hours will really make us feel as if we are already starting the long journey home!
