Day 2: Dubai

Overnight I slept for 12 straight hours, so almost missed breakfast! Rather later than I had hoped, I set out on one of those Hop-On, Hop-Off buses along the coast.

This is the Dubai skyline, viewed from the Big Bus stop at the Dubai Mall.

The Burj al Arabe Hotel is one of the most expensive in the world. The smallest room is a mere 178 square metres. Guests are spirited to and from the airport by helicopter!

The Atlantis at the Palm is at the end of a man-made island shaped like a palm. Beneath the hotel is a huge under-water world stocked with all manner of sea-life.

Another view of the Dubai skyline from the Palm.

The Burj al Khalifa is the tallest building in the world at more than 800 metres. It's really difficult to get a good photo of it.

In the evening we returned to the Dubai Mall to see this amazing fountain display.
